Birim Erol
Born in June 1987, Istanbul.
Birim Erol is a multidisciplinary artist who moves freely between different artistic disciplines, constantly redefining the boundaries of art.
Introduced to art at an early age under the influence of her painter mother, Semra Baykal, Erol developed a keen interest in painting, sculpture, theater, and dance, receiving extensive training in various fields. After graduating from Balıkesir Fine Arts High School, he pursued a degree in Painting at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. During his university years, she won funding from the Idea of My Life entrepreneurship competition, organized by AVEA and TOG, and established Karınca Art Center (KSM). Between 2007 and 2013, KSM operated in two branches, providing art education to 420 students each year. During this period, he also served as the art director for eight theater productions staged by KSM and won awards in various dance competitions.
His passion for art education and event organization led her to design creative art workshops for children aged 3-12 at IKSV Mini Fest, TOG projects, prisons, and public elementary schools under the Ministry of National Education. He worked as a coordinator in youth projects for Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. Additionally, he served as a team coordinator at the Çanakkale Biennial and directed the operations of the 1st International Çanakkale Children’s Biennial.
While enriching hıs theatrical experience through art direction, set, and costume design, he also wrote and directed two plays, Aramızda Masallar Var and Kesit. Around the same time, she began postgraduate studies on integrative art in architecture. Though he did not complete her academic studies, he carried his interdisciplinary approach into practice through conceptual space designs. He successfully executed projects for Bandırma Palas Hotel, Rusty Fork, Any, and Sade and collaborated with major brands such as Tuborg and Opel to create bespoke designs.
In 2018, her growing passion for performance art took form through the AVAZ Performance Art series. He has since staged over 60 performances, collaborating with artists from various disciplines. His performances break down the barrier between the artist and the audience, making the spectators an integral part of the experience. Some of her works were broadcasted on TRT 2’s Anlatı program. He also collaborated with global brands such as Porsche, Adidas, J&B, and Dereli Maden, creating Live Painting Shows.
In 2021, he founded his own gallery, MUK CAVE, in Çukurcuma, Beyoğlu, expanding her work in visual arts to a wider audience. This space continues to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary exhibitions and artistic events.
For Birim Erol, art is a bridge that unites her creative journey with a world where different disciplines converge. In his artistic practice, art is not just an exhibition or a performance but a multi-layered experience that deeply involves the audience. Constantly redefining artistic boundaries, she continues her journey at AVAZ Studio Stage in İstiklal and MUK CAVE in Çukurcuma.
